Accessible Data Storytelling for Vaccine Confidence

CDC Vaccine Confidence Task Force

Why This Project Mattered

The CDC’s Vaccine Confidence Task Force produces biweekly reports that track public sentiment and misinformation trends. While rich in data, the original reports were dense and difficult for partners to navigate.

QJS was brought in to modernize the report system—turning complex insights into clear, visually engaging tools that strengthen understanding and trust across audiences.

Approach and Delivery

We began by reviewing the original layout, typography, and structure to identify readability and usability challenges. The redesign introduced a flexible, 508-compliant template that improves navigation, hierarchy, and visual flow—making key information easier to locate and interpret.

Streamlined Navigation for Practical Use

Each report cover was redesigned for cohesion and clarity. Authentic photography reflects the communities represented in vaccine confidence efforts, while a consistent visual system builds recognition across the series.

A More Accessible Report Layout

The updated layout improves readability and flow through larger text, refined spacing, and clear hierarchy. Shorter line lengths and open margins make content easier to scan, while section headers and summaries guide readers through key findings.

Accessible Categorization System

We redesigned the data classification chart to make risk and sentiment categories easier to interpret. Color contrast, icons, and plain-language labels work together so readers can understand patterns at a glance—without relying on color alone.

Additional Space for Visuals

The new layout accommodates charts, graphics, and photos within the body of each report. This structure balances narrative and data, helping readers connect insights with real-world context.

Reflections

Redesigning the report transformed complex data into clear, inclusive communication—building trust and making public health insights easier to understand and share.
