Empowering HBCU Leaders with Inclusive Design
H.B.C.U. Executive Leadership Institute

Why This Project Mattered
As ELI expanded its programming, its existing materials no longer reflected the caliber of its leadership training or the professionalism of its mission. With multiple programs and audiences to serve, the Institute needed a visual refresh that could better engage HBCU leaders while honoring its established brand.

Approach and Delivery
We refreshed ELI’s collateral by redesigning key materials—including program booklets, recruitment flyers, and event agendas—for clarity, structure, and visual impact. Working within their existing brand, we modernized layouts, improved readability, and introduced stronger hierarchy to help fellows and stakeholders quickly engage with the content.
Before
Dense text, small font size, and minimal structure.

After
Clear hierarchy, larger text, structured layout.

Before
Low contrast, no hierarchy, hard to scan.

After
Improved contrast and readability.

Before
Scattered elements, weak readability.

After
Organized design for better navigation.

Design That Works for Every Leader
From font selection to page structure, every choice prioritizes clarity and ease of use. The materials support leaders of all experience levels, making them accessible to those with varying levels of digital familiarity. The result is a system that empowers HBCU leaders to engage confidently with their program resources.

A Website Built for Usability and Growth
HBCU ELI’s new website is independent of university restrictions, allowing for greater control and adaptability. Designed with straightforward navigation and streamlined content, it ensures fellows and partners can find what they need without barriers.

Reflections
This project shows how thoughtful updates—without starting from scratch—can breathe new life into a growing brand. By refining structure, accessibility, and visual cohesion, we helped ELI present its programs with the polish and clarity today’s HBCU leaders deserve.
